Have you watched the artful dodger on Hulu? I really enjoyed it! I thought of you bc it takes place in Australia. It’s really interesting to think of how Australias history impacts the culture there even today 🩷
youtube
I haven't yet! I actually didn't even know it had come out yet, haha - I knew they were making it as they shot it in Sydney and my sister did a few dailies on it before she went onto another show, but I didn't really know that much about it beyond it being an Oliver spin-off set in Australia. It looks fun, and I quite like Thomas Brodie-Sangster, so I'll definitely check it out.
Thanks for the rec and for thinking of me! ❤️
#it's actually been a good year for australian tv which is exciting!#deadloch was great#as was safe home and black snow#the new seasons of the newsreader and utopia were great too#and i've just started strife which i'm enjoying so far (asher keddie my beloved)#and while i had mixed feelings on lost flowers of alice hart i think there was a good show in there it was just underdeveloped#still need to watch scrublands and ten pound poms#not australian but yesterday i started watching from and jury duty and am really enjoying both#(thank you to goldcaught for the rec on the former!)#tv asks#welcome to my ama

Have to be honest, I'm not feeling bad sisters season 2 :(
I still love my girls and will keep watching, and though I have lots of thoughts on what is or isn't working, the bottom line is that it's just not especially compelling this time around.
On the plus side I have discovered Deadloch. Which I would like mainlined into my veins please and ty
#it's easy to list the great things about season one that are missing in season two but that's not the whole of it#i wouldn't expect them to try and replicate everything#but whatever this is does not seem to be working very well#good news though deadloch fucks#bad sisters#bad sisters season 2#deadloch#tv shows#text post#television#apple tv plus#tv series

i was thinking about it, and i think that the reason Eddie works so well as a character despite (in the beginning especially) having the potential to be a VERY unlikeable, grating character, is that she’s pretty quickly shown to be genuinely smart and competent. Like I’m someone who generally hates characters that fill the tropes she does, but when I was watching the show for the first time I remember that while I was frustrated by her I still cared about her. Like during the shack scene I was legit on edge bc I was scared she’d get hurt.
Like it would’ve been so easy to just make her an idiot, but they didn’t and by establishing that she’s smart within her first few minutes on screen (specifically her talk with James) completely saves her character from becoming unlikable imo, even when she’s acting like a dick.
#deadloch#eddie redcliffe#i think I talk a lot about how well Dulcie is written and acted but Eddie is just as great like#Idk i wanna talk more about her#I have less to say bc shes much more open and her issues are more explored in the show#Whereas Dulcie is repressed and confusing#But like Eddie is such a well done character and Madeline Sami plays her perfectly

If Deadloch gets a second season what do you hope will happen in it?
I'd really like to see the Bushy murder investigation! I imagine it being something of a reversal of the first season - first season was focused on Dulcie's life and featured a big-city detective in a small town, second season would focus on Eddie's life and feature a small-town detective in a big city.
I also think it would focus more on corruption and incompetence in the police - I can't remember if it was actually implied that Bushy was shot by a fellow cop or if that was just a theory I had but I stand by it. So I think it would be interesting to see the investigation turn inwards, and that would keep the first season's murder-mystery "everyone is a suspect" vibe while being different enough to not just be a rehash.
#GREAT question and if anyone else wants to chime in i would love to see other people's answers!#thanks for asking!#deadloch

I know Dulcie’s having a terrible time throughout, but episode 6 of Deadloch might be my favourite
“Well, I would say to them, Jeremy, that the killer is only targeting cis-het white men, and our market research shows that that's a far cry from our Feastival patron demographic. In fact, given that the victim demographic is usually responsible for the perpetration of violence, Deadloch may well be the safest place to be right now for many members of our Feastival community.”
“Imagine if you'd arrested Skye! I'd have divorced you on the spot.” (Promise?)
“And I know this because my wife told me because I am blended into this situation like an onion in a soup.”
“Who is taking notes? This is just numbers!”
“Ma'ams, sorry I'm late. I got poisoned.”
“It [the voice-to-text software] doesn't understand our accents.”
“Killer dyke! Not you; your mum!”
“Why does Margaret Carruthers get to decide who deserves what?” :(
“Ever since Trent got murdered, you and your mum have been creeping around like you're the fucking Hamburglar twins.”
“I’m pregnant and I can't be committed to this relationship if you're a serial killer.”
That shot of Margaret Carruthers in front of the antlers doubling as devil horns. That's the stuff, baby!!!
THE FIGHT
Cath blithely missing that Dulcie had been miserable for five years :(
“Maybe you'd have remembered the date better, Dulcie, if you were at home babysitting Tom with me that weekend instead of FUCKING SOME OTHER WOMAN IN A WORK SHOWER.”
“Right now, my job's more important than us, Cath. It's more important than you.” OOH.
Bobbing bodies at the Cinema Aquatica, or Floating Flicks. They’re both good names!
#1. was mayor rahme wrong? no she was not!#2. i love that this show (a) is extremely funny and (b) engages with the insidious issues of toxic masculinity and colonialism#she contains multitudes!#3. i had a great time munching on popcorn while rewatching the fight#4. hamburglar twins!!#dulcie collins#mayor rahme#deadloch#lesbian divorce

interesting how ray pies killed all those men in the name of "solidarity with women" but ended up throwing said women like skye o'dwyer under the bus. how continuing the killings made it so that vic had to bring up that trauma of hers again. kind of like how men use force and violence to solve societal issues whilst ignoring what the victims (women) have to say about it. taking credit when its not supposed to be about taking credit. wanting notoriety vs wanting retribution.

I love your work, and I love how many new shows and movies I've discovered through it! Apologies if you've already been drenched in recs for this, but I wanted to throw Deadloch out there as something you might enjoy. It's a recent eight-episode Australian mystery-comedy with too many queer characters to count, including the protagonist, and a wonderful gay, bi, and trans cast and creative team.
I'd never heard of Deadloch??? But I'm SO in???????? Thank you so much for telling me about it! There may not be a reaction, but there will at least be a liveblog here on Tumblr.
#GW Asks#Deadloch#It has the chick from OFMD S2!!!#A great looking mystery a female investigation duo wonderful production quality I'm very excited about this#even if the comedy doesn't land for me all the time I'm STILL hyped about it which is saying something

I already sort of made a post about this I think but I noticed that despite being miserable in deadloch, Dulcie has a stronger tie with the community than any of her friends/family who claim to love Deadloch. Like, Tammy and Miranda know her enough to call her by her nickname get texts from her and know about her personal life, Sharelle is familiar enough to feel comfortable prodding her about if she thinks Eddie pissed herself, I can’t say Vanessa *likes* her but they have a relationship and Dulcie is from the beginning looking out for her, etc
idk i mean I think her job helps with that, sort of forces her to be interacting with everyone; but like. She doesnt have to know them, she Knows them because she cares about them and she cares about the town and the people in it even if shes unhappy there, which is a really sweet quality.
Also on a more sad note, is probably what got her suspended/fired by Hastings, because she wasnt willing to sit by and allow his shit. and Also hes a raging homophobe misogynist.
#deadloch#dulcie collins#I love dulcie so much ok im sorry skfngjj#Shes such a great character#This is my first post of 2024 LOL

For anyone looking for a series to fill the hole that good omens left I highlyyyyyy recommend giving deadloch a go, especially if you're queer, like comedy murder mysteries/who done it themes, queer women led casts, and well fleshed out characters that feel real while still being silly.
If you liked good omens or our flag means death then I think there's a very good chance you'll like deadloch too
Here are some gifs to help convince you
#deadloch#tv recommendations#good omens#lesbian main characters#genuinely give it a go its great#looks like just a comedy at first but then it starts developing and you're like “oh shit this is better than i thought”
